Abstract

This article aims to investigate the factors associated with procrastination and motivation among university students and their implications for mental health. Procrastination, a common behavior among students, is associated with difficulties in emotional regulation and can negatively impact academic performance and well-being. The study used a sample of 618 students from a university in Brazil and assessed variables such as symptoms of depression, stress, anxiety, suicidal ideation, self-perceived health, satisfaction with body image, and lifestyle. The results indicated that factors such as depression, anxiety, stress, and dissatisfaction with self-image are related to increased procrastination, while motivation proved to be a protective factor. Students with greater motivation reported less procrastination, suggesting that interventions aimed at increasing motivation and improving emotional regulation may be effective in reducing procrastination and improving students' mental health. These findings highlight the need for strategies that promote well-being and academic performance, addressing both emotional and motivational aspects.
