Abstract

Distance Education (EAD) in Brazil has a long history, dating back to the 18th century. This article explores the evolution of EAD, from its beginnings with correspondence courses to the use of modern digital platforms. It highlights the importance of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the expansion of EAD, which has promoted the democratization of access to higher education. Despite challenges such as ensuring the quality of education and digital inclusion, EAD offers flexibility and geographical accessibility. The article concludes that collaboration between the public and private sectors is crucial to maximizing the opportunities offered by EAD in Brazil.
