The article discussed here has an exploratory characteristic, with technical bibliographic procedures aiming to analyze scientific productions that cover the theme of physical education at school. It was developed through a bibliographic survey in national periodicals indexed in the SciELO database, considering the last ten years of publication. As a result, 23 articles mentioned the topic were found, 17.4% of which were field articles and 82.6% were review articles. There was thematic categorization defined by Bardin's thematic analysis, and the result was a category called: Physical education as a strategy to increase school performance. In this discussion, it is understood from the findings produced, that the discipline of physical education went through a process of transformation in its construction, and that although there is no scientific proof from studies, and that field research is scarce, the Participation of students in the subject favors their involvement in the various subjects of the school curriculum, increasing performance in relation to the content learned. However, it is understood that although there is such recognition, it is important to carry out comparative field studies to capture such scientific basis.
