Abstract

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a progressive liver condition associated with inflammation and cellular damage, frequently observed in individuals with obesity and metabolic syndrome. The treatment of NASH has proven challenging, with nutritional management emerging as a key approach. This study reviews the current evidence on nutritional interventions in the treatment of NASH, highlighting the efficacy of different dietary strategies. The integrative review analyzed studies on the Mediterranean diet, weight loss, omega-3 fatty acid supplementation, and intermittent fasting. The results indicate that weight loss, particularly through caloric restriction, is effective in improving histological and metabolic markers of NASH. The Mediterranean diet demonstrated substantial benefits in reducing hepatic inflammation and improving liver function. Supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids also showed positive results, although the optimal dose and duration of treatment need to be better established. Intermittent fasting, although promising, requires further evidence to confirm its specific efficacy. It is concluded that nutritional interventions play a crucial role in the management of NASH, with personalized treatment and an integrated approach being essential for effective results.
