This work aimed to discuss environmental education as an educational practice in line with teacher training in professional and technological education (EPT). Permeating the current legislation, it was possible to analyze that the instruments for the applicability of this practice have legal support, as well as for the training of teachers. Environmental education is present in the daily life of society as whole, however, to form an effectively critical, reflective and active citizen in society, who knows how to discuss socio-environmental problems, it is essential that they have training, and this begins with teachers, such as advocates the law. Environmental education should not be applied in the form of a discipline, but in an interdisciplinary and contextualized manner. It is a current and complex theme, however, fundamental for the formation of a critical and active citizen in a capitalist society, which imposes irrational use of natural resources and excessive consumption of manufactured goods. In this work, with a qualitative focus, the bibliographic research methodology was used. For effective teaching practices to occur, these professionals must have training in environmental education, as this will enable them to change their educational practices using innovative, rather than traditional, methodologies.
