This article is a pertinent reflection with the aim of reporting the importance of indigenous literature in the school context. The challenges in the insertion and dissemination of indigenous culture and the persistence of prejudice and discrimination against these people highlighted. Indigenous literature considered an instrument of resistance, in which the expansion of decolonizing narratives is necessary, enabling greater representation of indigenous peoples. It stands out, therefore, for understanding the importance of promoting knowledge of indigenous knowledge and values in order to propagate the genesis of Brazilian history, in addition to showing rich habits and teachings. A qualitative bibliographic review used as a methodology, using the inductive method. The study enabled a better understanding of the educational reality experienced by gaps in the dissemination of indigenous narratives. In addition to enabling reflection on the importance of the teacher's role as a mediator in teaching in this process. It was also evident that, for the process of including indigenous literature in schools to come to fruition, there is a need for public policies to significantly implement learning based on the use of indigenous literature.
