Abstract

The article addresses the Brazilian legal framework related to the promotion of antiracist education, highlighting instruments such as the Federal Constitution, the Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education (LDB), Law 10.639/2003, which instituted the obligation to teach Afro-Brazilian history and culture in schools, and the National Curricular Guidelines for Ethnic-Racial Relations Education. Additionally, the article discusses the significant contribution of women to the field of antiracist education. Guacira Louro, through her reflections on gender and education, highlights the importance of considering intersectionalities in the fight against racism and sexism. Pinho, on the other hand, emphasizes the importance of valuing scientific knowledge produced by and about black women as a way to challenge and subvert historically imposed stereotypes and oppressions. Bell Hooks emphasizes education as a practice of freedom and the importance of critical dialogue in deconstructing racial hierarchies. Lélia Gonzalez brings essential contributions to the understanding of racial relations in Brazil, challenging stereotypes and advocating for the valorization of Afro-Brazilian culture. Finally, Nilma Lino Gomes highlights the need for the decolonization of school curricula and the promotion of pedagogical practices that value ethnic-racial diversity. The article aims to offer a comprehensive view of the legal foundations of antiracist education in Brazil, as well as to highlight the significant theoretical and practical contribution of black women to this field, evidencing the need for an intersectional approach committed to promoting racial equality in education.
