The First Epistle of Peter is both theological and pastoral in nature, as it connects theology with the duties of Christian life. The doctrine in 1Peter is not merely theoretical, but unfolds into practical principles, especially in passages where the Old Testament is quoted, alluded to, or echoed. Consistently, the author of the epistle applies images and concepts drawn from the Jewish Scriptures to solidify the New Testament identity of the people of God in his discourse. This essay, based on the analysis of the use of the Old Testament in 1Peter conducted in the author’s doctoral research, aims to highlight some practical implications of this important relationship. In the process, it was observed that the encounter between 1Peter and the Old Testament reveals significant developments involving themes such as continuity between the Testaments, the pilgrimage of believers in the world, the expansion of blessings from the old covenant to the new covenant, the importance of holiness, the purpose of suffering, the need to cling to the divine word, an ethics based on love for God and neighbor, the ideal attitude in the face of persecution, the assistance of the Holy Spirit, the expectation of eschatological judgment and the parousia, conduct in family and social relationships, among others. Considering these practical implications highlights the continuing and current relevance of 1Peter in the life of the church.
