Periodization is a central issue in historical studies, being especially complex and controversial. This article analyzes the new periodization of pedagogical ideas in Brazil, proposed by Dermeval Saviani in his work "History of Pedagogical Ideas in Brazil". The analysis considers the proposed periods, subdivided into phases, and discusses their theoretical and practical implications in the construction of the history of education in Brazil. The new periodization offers a more precise and comprehensive approach, highlighting the hegemony of pedagogical ideas in different historical moments.
