The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in distance education (EaD) is a promising advancement that transforms teaching and learning methods through greater personalization and efficiency. This study, based on bibliographic research, analyzes the capabilities and challenges of adopting AI in EaD, focusing on technical, pedagogical, and ethical issues. The case of the chatbot "Dorinha," developed by the Federal University of Paraíba, exemplifies the potential of AI to enhance student-content interaction by adapting to individual needs. Additionally, collaborative strategies among educators, developers, and the academic community are essential to overcome obstacles and maximize benefits. The research highlights the importance of adequate public policies to support the necessary infrastructure and promote equitable access to personalized education. It also emphasizes the need for continuous support for innovation in EaD, ensuring that technologies are implemented ethically and responsibly. Through these initiatives, EaD can significantly evolve, offering a richer and more inclusive learning experience.
