This article sought to discuss the potential of using the Geoplane as a didactic-pedagogical tool for approaching flat geometric figures to explore the concept of area as a quantity. In this sense, the guiding question was "what potential is evident from the manipulation of the Geoplane in tasks aimed at constructing flat geometric figures to explore the concept of area as a quantity in a 7th grade elementary school class?". With a qualitative approach, tasks were applied in a 7th grade elementary school class in a public school in the municipality of Breves-Pa to explore the concept of area as a quantity, in order to use the Geoplane as a didactic-pedagogical resource for constructing flat geometric figures, helping to solve these tasks. The results showed the potential of the Geoplane as a resource for constructing the concept of area as a quantity, emphasizing the relational nature of the geometric, numerical and quantity frameworks. It is therefore important to structure educational actions that highlight the construction of concepts of mathematical knowledge objects, as well as the use of manipulable teaching materials as a resource that enhances this construction.
