THE CONTRIBUTION OF PHYSIOTHERAPY IN THE MOTOR DEVELOPMENT OF CHILDREN WITH AUTISTIC SPECTRUM DISORDER (ASD)

This article sought to discuss the contribution of physiotherapy to the motor development of children with autism spectrum disorder, from the perspective of evaluating that physiotherapy in health becomes necessary, since this disorder, when neglected, can cause severe consequences, with the aim of addressing the concept, history of physiotherapy and autism; highlight the main difficulties encountered by physiotherapists when providing motor assistance to children with autism spectrum disorder; present the importance and contributions of physiotherapy in the motor development of children with autism spectrum disorder. Its methodology was qualitative, descriptive research, which aimed to detail the complexities of the information obtained through an in-depth analysis of the authors' ideas in research. This bibliographic review worked with articles from the last 10 years, using electronic databases such as LILACS, BIREME, SCIELO, Virtual Health Library and periodicals. As for results, physiotherapeutic treatment must be based on a lot of knowledge, to seek to develop the skills of the child with ASD, including the family throughout this process. Thus, it can be concluded how beneficial the most diverse motor physiotherapeutic treatments are, promoting a better quality of life for these children.
