Objective: This research aimed to understand the role of nurses in promoting neonatal health in Primary Health Care (PHC), focusing on reducing neonatal morbidity and promoting healthy development of newborns. Materials and Methods: The study consisted of a systematic literature review conducted between February and May 2024. Data were collected from online sources, including databases such as LILACS, PubMed, Scielo, and Google Scholar. The research process was subdivided into three distinct phases, each corresponding to a specific research objective and establishing clear inclusion and exclusion criteria. Relevant keywords were adopted for the search, aligned with the three identified objectives. Results: The research demonstrated the positive impact of nurses in PHC on reducing neonatal mortality. By providing comprehensive guidance to parents on essential care practices, such as promoting exclusive breastfeeding and proper umbilical cord hygiene, professionals empower families to adopt preventive measures. Additionally, systematic monitoring of infant growth and development enables early detection of potential health complications. Conclusion: Nurses in PHC play an essential role in promoting neonatal health. They serve as instruments of change in health care practices within the Unified Health System (SUS), responding to the proposal of the new care model, which is not centered on clinical care and cure, but primarily on the comprehensiveness of care. This research highlighted the importance of a holistic approach focused on the neonate, emphasizing the need for early and continuous interventions to ensure a healthy and promising start for babies and their families.
