Diabetes Mellitus is a disease that affects a large part of the world's population. This fact constitutes a major concern, especially with regard to public health. Early treatment and monitoring of glycemic levels are extremely important to reduce the incidence of possible complications in diabetic patients. Objective: to analyze the importance of nurses in caring for patients with Diabetes Mellitus. Materials and Methods: This course conclusion work consisted of a bibliographic literature review. Results: It was noted that with the increase in the prevalence of comorbidities and complications arising from Diabetes Mellitus, nurses have a primary role in caring for diabetic patients in Primary Care, thus contributing to improving quality of life and reducing complications. . Conclusion: The research showed that nurses perform much more than the role of caring, they act directly in the health education of the population, through prevention and promotion. All guidelines are simple, but they are essential for successful treatment and improving patients' quality of life.
