The general objective of this article is to analyze the impact of reading on the life of the re-educated person, exploring how this impact transcends the physical limits of the prison institution. The issue of the prison system is a topic of great relevance, especially with regard to the resocialization of inmates. Given this context, the question arises about the challenges that the State faces in promoting and expanding the stimulus so that the convict can adhere to the legal institute of Remission of Sentence through Reading. Thus, the methodology used has a qualitative approach, with bibliographic review and analysis of relevant data on the topic. Reports, research and academic studies that address the impact of reading on the resocialization of inmates are examined. Throughout the analysis, it was possible to verify that reading has a significant impact on the life of the re-educated person, going beyond the walls of the prison institution. Through access to reading, inmates develop cognitive, emotional and social skills that contribute to their reintegration into society. Furthermore, remission of sentences through reading not only provides individual benefits to inmates, but also promotes a culture of respect for human rights and human dignity within the prison system. However, the challenges faced by the State in promoting and expanding the incentive for convicts to comply with this legal institute still persist, highlighting the need for more effective public policies in this area.
