CARING FOR THE PUERPERAL WOMAN: THE IMPORTANCE OF THE OBSTETRIC NURSE

This work presents a literature review on care for postpartum women, focusing on the challenges faced, practices and interventions to improve care and the impact of obstetric nursing care on the health of women and newborns. Objective: to analyze the relevance of obstetric nursing in the context of the postpartum period. Material and methods: a bibliographic approach was used to compile and analyze data from various sources. Results: The importance of continuing education to overcome challenges in postpartum care was highlighted, emphasizing the humanization of care, postpartum assessment, breastfeeding support, education about newborns, promotion of mental health and self-care as practices and essential interventions. Furthermore, the positive impact of obstetric nursing care on improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes was highlighted. Conclusion: obstetric nursing plays a crucial role in promoting the well-being of postpartum women and newborns, contributing to personalized and quality care.
