PREJUDICE, STIGMA AND THERAPEUTIC CHALLENGES IN COGNITIVE-BEHAVIORAL THERAPIES: PERSPECTIVES AND STRATEGIES

Prejudice, stigma and challenges that comprise the field of psychology may be related to the success or failure with the care proposal related to clients seeking relief from suffering. The aim of this proposal was to discuss how some clinical situations can prove challenging for the psychotherapist and to promote reflections on how to deal with these challenges. For the proposal, the following situations were highlighted: marital infidelity, psychological violence between intimate partners, treatment for substance use disorders and affirmative care for LGBTQIA+ people. Methodology: Bibliographic and exploratory research of authors who deal with these demands. Results: CBT techniques such as: social skills, use of psychoeducation, self-regulation and conflict resolution were highlighted as some of the instruments used in this more strategic psychotherapeutic process. Conclusion: Prejudice, stigma and challenges are recognized factors that may impact client health care, and psychotherapists have instruments to use to improve professional development and in relation to care for these demands.
