This Course Completion Work seeks to explore the legal challenges related to criminal liability in cases of Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). DID is a rare and controversial psychiatric condition in which individuals manifest multiple identities or distinct personality states. This unique condition calls into question an individual's ability to understand the criminal nature of their actions and to control their behavior in accordance with the law. This work will analyze the criminal responsibility of those who have dissociative identity disorder, through doctrinal texts, bibliographical research and specific legislation. This work seeks to contribute to the discussion on how the judicial system can deal fairly and informedly with individuals who suffer from this condition, while at the same time protecting society against criminal acts.
