Crimes of physical and/or verbal violence against women have legal protection under the Maria da Penha Law, which protects victims of violence and provides prevention and penalization measures. Because of this, the present study focused on the discussion about protective measures in relation to the Maria da Penha Law. To better understand this topic, the effectiveness of these measures in Brazil was analyzed. In the methodological field, a bibliographical review was carried out, based on scientific articles, books, periodicals, jurisprudence and current legislation on the respective topic. Data collection was carried out through databases such as Scielo, Google Scholar, among others, from 2018 to 2023. The results showed that the measures analyzed here are of enormous importance for victimized women. By offering protective measures, victims are empowered to take steps to ensure their own safety and that of their children. This can help restore a sense of control over their lives and promote their autonomy. Despite recognizing their relevance, data shows that they are still not fully effective, given that women continue to be raped and killed in their homes and in society on a daily, continuous basis. Many of them are victims of feminicide having already undergone some urgent protective measure. In other words, even when imposed, they do not prevent victims from continuing to suffer attacks or even being killed.
