PHYSICAL AND MENTAL IMPACT OF NURSING PROFESSIONALS IN THE CONTEXT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Humanity in its history has been marked several times by the impact of fearsome infectious disease pandemics. Health professionals were at high risk of being infected, since the disease had a high infectious potential and the mortality rate of the disease. Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome 2 (SARS – COV -2) emerged in China at the end of 2019, in March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it a pandemic, which generated fear, concern and anguish, health professionals were faced with an unknown disease, with rapid and important changes. Nurses and nursing technicians are at a greater risk of infections, due to their workload and care provided to patients. Objectives: The present study aims to analyze existing studies that highlight the impact on the physical and mental health of nursing professionals, as frontline professionals in the fight against Covid-19. Methodology: Bibliographic review without specific delimitations. Conclusion: The Covid-19 pandemic had a negative impact on the lives of these professionals, if it is necessary that measures be taken to improve working conditions until the availability of resources to provide assistance, it is worth remembering that just like patients.
