When examining the current social panorama, it becomes clear that understanding the fundamental concepts of Natural Sciences, especially Biology, is essential to building a more fair, sustainable and future-oriented society. However, teaching these concepts in our country faces challenges that require attention and responses from the scientific community. In particular, it is essential to create and validate tools and activities that facilitate the teaching of the basic principles of biology concepts, in particular those related to cytology, with an emphasis on understanding cell division. Therefore, the general objective of this work is to: Identify the contributions of the pedagogical workshop as a tool for approaching the topic of cell division with high school students from a school in the federal network of Floriano-PI. To this end, the methodological path was based on qualitative research, through a case study, using ethnomethodology as a theoretical basis and participant observation and photographic records as instruments. The study showed that the students participating in the research showed interest in understanding the proposed subject, indicating a positive change in the teaching approach and the successful use of the pedagogical workshop. The activities proved to be effective in teaching cytology and cell division, this could be evidenced by the association of structures with phases during the creation of models and participation in other activities.
