Stem cells are undifferentiated cells, with a high capacity for proliferation and the ability to self-renew. Cell therapy with stem cells of dental origin has aroused great interest for the scientific community, as they are cells that have a great capacity to differentiate themselves from other cells, awaiting future treatment of diseases and tissue regeneration. Thus, the objective of this work is to conduct a literature review considering the importance of dental pulp tissue as a source of stem cells. The methodology used as databases: Public Medline (Pubmed), Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SCIELO), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), articles in Portuguese and English published in the last 15 years were used. The results of this work are of enormous value for dental surgeons and researchers in the area, reinforcing the importance of dental pulp tissue as a source of stem cells, helping to understand the applicability and limitations of the use of stem cells of dental origin for healing certain diseases and / or restoration of tissue sites.
