Abstract

This article aims to generally assess the violation of the right to adequate housing in the city of Manaus. As specific objectives, it aims to analyze the phenomenon of the constitutionalization of civil law and its correlation with the right to housing; study the right to housing; analyze the case of the landslide in the Jorge Teixeira neighborhood in 2023, examining its causes and demonstrating the relationship between the violation of the right to housing and income inequality. A qualitative and case study bibliographic research was conducted, employing an inductive methodology and a critical approach to answer the following: to what degree is the Jorge Teixeira case a result of the violation of the right to housing? The results indicated that factors such as income inequality and lack of urban planning contributed to the incident, and these, correlated with the right to housing, show that this guarantee was not respected.
