Abstract

People management in public administration, especially in specific areas such as prison administration, represents a complex and crucial challenge. This digital book aims to explore and analyze the various aspects involved in people management in this specific context, offering insights, strategies and good practices to improve the performance and efficiency of penitentiary institutions.
Penitentiary administration is a sensitive and strategic area of public administration, responsible for the management of prison establishments and the monitoring and resocialization of individuals deprived of liberty. In this context, people management plays a fundamental role in promoting security, guaranteeing the human rights of inmates and the effectiveness of the prison system as a whole.
Therefore, the training of managers and employees who work in prison administration is essential for the proper functioning of institutions, as well as for the promotion of a solid organizational culture committed to the principles of justice, legality and respect for human rights. This book addresses specific training strategies and programs for prison managers, including topics such as conflict management, prison security, applicable legislation and leadership techniques.
In addition to managers, the training of other prison administration employees is also extremely important. From prison officers to health professionals and social workers, everyone must receive adequate training to deal with the specific challenges and demands of the prison environment. This book discusses methodologies and approaches for training these professionals, highlighting the importance of technical, ethical and humanistic training.
In addition to initial training, the training and continuous development of employees are essential to ensure operational efficiency and constant improvement of the services provided by the prison administration. This book explores different training strategies, including practical simulations, mentoring programs, distance education, and partnerships with teaching and research institutions. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of developing socio-emotional skills and promoting a healthy and motivating work environment.
In essence, this digital book offers a comprehensive and detailed view of people management in public administration, with a specific focus on penitentiary administration. Through in-depth analyses, practical cases and suggestions for good practices, we seek to contribute to the improvement of people management processes and, consequently, to the improvement of the prison system as a whole.
