This article aimed to focus on the analysis of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology, with the purpose of presenting it as an alternative means to improve project time, efficiency, and quality. For this purpose, it is essential to carry out a comparative analysis of the drafting time of a small-scale residential project, initially using Revit and then AutoCAD and Excel. In this context, a bibliographic survey of the fundamental concepts of planning and BIM technology was conducted, along with a brief history of the model. The research was followed by the methodology and the analysis of results, where data was collected to compare the drafting time between the two previously mentioned methods, demonstrated through a graph. From this, it is observed that Revit, with its application of BIM technology, presents advantages related to the time dedicated to project planning, leading to the conclusion that the adoption of programs that use BIM technology optimizes planning time and management in the construction industry. However, initially, the software learning time may be considered a challenge.
