THE DISCIPLINE PERSONAL FINANCE OF THE UNDERGRADUATE COURSE IN ACCOUNTING SCIENCES AND ITS INFLUENCE ON THE FINANCIAL HABITS OF STUDENTS OF THIS COURSE

The theme addressed in this research is focused on Education and had as its main objective to analyze whether the Personal Finance discipline of the undergraduate course The Master of Science in Accounting at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) influences the financial habits of the students of this course, making them more aware consumers and with more optimized financial attitudes. To collect the quantitative data of this descriptive research, a questionnaire with twenty-one closed questions was developed and applied to UFRJ undergraduates. For the qualitative data collection, Three semi-structured interviews were conducted with undergraduate professors in Accounting at UFRJ. The results showed that the discipline Personal Finance influenced the financial habits of the students of this course in terms of financial organization, concern about future retirement, habit of saving money and researching prices. From the data collected, it was also concluded that students who did not study Personal Finance demonstrated low financial knowledge and that almost all students in other careers would like to study it at graduation.
