Human rights education and values education and their consequences for moral development are studied to reflect on the “other” based on children's literature books in elementary school in a municipal school in Santos. The objectives of this article are to reflect on education in values and education in Human Rights and on the moral development of children and how it develops in a project based on children's books that address the issue of the other. This is narrative research, as we chose to narrate the development of an Education in Values and Human Rights project in the early years of Elementary School based on a didactic sequence with children's literature books with the aim of working Education in Human Rights, Moral Development, and reflection on others. The results demonstrated that the choice of books was not neutral, since the chosen authors are participants in moments of war, where intolerance towards others is frequent, but the resilience they present brings to light a reflection on others that can be worked on with children. The chosen didactic sequence demonstrated that participation in conversation circles, in the students' short texts and graphic productions was reflected in the understanding of the dimensions of others, of the differences and diversity that needs respect and dignified treatment. Cooperation, dialogue, and different opinions that emerged during the conversation were encouraged. It was concluded that values education encourages children to consider the things that sustain them and, in turn, their place and space; that developing critical reasoning is vital, after all there are many others who need new perspectives and need to be treated with dignity.
