Abstract

The present study aims to understand and describe characteristics of autism spectrum disorder as well as the importance of including these children in regular education spaces. The bibliographic and documentary review is the methodology adopted in this work, taking as support articles, documents and laws that ensure the right to inclusion and access to regular education as well as the multifunctional resource room for specialized educational assistance. Analyzing the emergence of the term autism and the contributions of DSMR-5 and ICD-11 in the diagnosis of ASD, providing opportunities for professionals in both the health and education areas to recognize the characteristics of autism for possible planning of actions and strategies that seek offering activities that contribute to the treatment and social, cognitive, motor and emotional development of autistic children.
