Abstract

Dear readers,

It is with great pleasure that we publish the digital book "Drugs and Social Services". This carefully crafted work stands out as a significant contribution to the complex and multifaceted understanding of the role of Social Work in the context of drug-related issues. Through a critical and reflective approach, we aimed to provide an in-depth analysis of the intersections between drugs and the professional practice of Social Work.
The book's introduction sets the stage for the comprehensive discussion that will follow. We explore the motivations behind choosing this topic, presenting the growing relevance of Social Work in the face of emerging challenges related to the use of psychoactive substances. In addition, we provide an overview of the main topics covered in subsequent chapters, providing readers with clear guidance on the structure of the work.
This chapter forms the core of the work, delving into the complexities of the interactions between drugs and Social Work practice. We explore the historical, sociocultural and political dimensions that shape the contemporary landscape of drug issues. Furthermore, we highlight the importance of a humanistic approach and professional ethics in providing services to individuals affected by the use of psychoactive substances. Throughout the chapter, case studies, critical analyzes and ethical reflections are presented, providing a comprehensive and contextualized understanding.
The conclusion of the book not only recaps the main discoveries and insights presented throughout this work, but expands the discussion to contemplate future directions and challenges for the practice of Social Work in the face of drug-related issues. We highlight the continued need for an interdisciplinary approach, the strengthening of effective public policies and the promotion of preventive and intervention initiatives. This chapter is not just a conclusion, but an invitation to active reflection and continued engagement with this crucial topic.
In "Drugs and Social Work", we will offer an in-depth, informed and critical perspective on the fundamental role of Social Work in drug-related issues. We invite anyone interested in promoting social justice and the well-being of those affected by the use of psychoactive substances to explore this book and to actively engage in the discussions and actions that follow. We believe that this work will contribute significantly to the enrichment of knowledge and ethical and conscious practice in the field of Social Work.
