Introduction: Food selectivity in the preschool phase is common in children and can result in an inadequate intake of nutrients essential for child growth and development. Objective: the objective of this work was based on identifying the causes and consequences of food selectivity and possible interventions. Methodology: This is an exploratory research, of the integrative review type, with a quantitative approach, electronic bibliographic searches were carried out in the following national and international computerized databases: Lilacs, Medline, Science, Direct and Scielo. The elaboration of the question and the strategy adopted in this study followed the Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome (PICO) model. Results: The following causes for food selectivity were identified: organic causes, dietary behavioral, sensory dysfunction and four interventions were identified, described in table 2. Conclusion: The nutritionist is extremely important when it comes to food selectivity, as through methods that refer to nutritional education combined with family support, the child has a significant improvement regarding the topic addressed.
