Posterior crossbite is a malocclusion that, once installed, does not correct itself, intervention is necessary as soon as possible. Individuals with this malocclusion usually present with maxillary atresia, requiring a disjunction of the midpalatal suture for correction, and this can be achieved by rapid maxillary expansion. Several devices are available to facilitate the opening of the midpalatal suture, the most used are Haas and Hyrax, which have different characteristics and the same indications. The objective of this work is to establish the prevalence of occlusal alterations, deleterious oral habits, etiological factors and the type of orthodontic treatment. Once the data are collected and analyzed, it was concluded that rapid maxillary expansion with Haas and Hyrax expanders brings good results in the correction of posterior crossbite, which requires professional knowledge regarding the etiology and origin of the malocclusion. , treatment possibilities, insertion of the appropriate disjunction protocol and patient cooperation.
