This article analyzes the construction of inclusive schools in the current context of Brazil and addresses the legal support for education for people with disabilities in the country. Considering that the lack of knowledge of education professionals in relation to laws can affect the quality of education for students with disabilities in the regular education network, the study aims to investigate the historical evolution of this field and its content. Legal support is believed to be a necessary, although not sufficient, prerequisite for effective inclusive education. This article is part of a master's thesis entitled “Inclusive education beyond legal aspects: everyday life in a public school in Feira de Santana – A case study”, developed from a bibliographical research, focusing on identifying the legal framework of education current inclusive. The results highlight the substantial importance of Brazilian legislation related to inclusive education. Thus, research has the potential to generate practical strategies and recommendations that seek to assist education professionals, strengthen the implementation of inclusive education and ensure that all students have access to quality education, regardless of their differences.
