Distance Education makes use of the Internet, through its particularities, such as : flexibility in relation to time and space, no need to travel and greater ease of communication between teachers and students, Thus, Virtual Laeraning Environments (VLE) can be unsdertood as a space available on the web where different technological reoursces are gathered, which aims to enable Distance Education, aiming to support teachinh and learning. This research aimed to present the pedagogical concepsts od VLE, as well as to present the Moodle environment through is chacacteristics, interfeces and possibilities of collaborative learning.It was used as methodology a bibliographic research in book and scientific articles with autors reladet to this theme. Resulting in the use of Moodle as a virtual teaching and learning environment whose main characteristics is the integracion of more than one type of language resource, such as : visual, sound, verbal, animation, which can be chacacterized as multimodality, which integrates nem interfaces for both communication and language.
