Abstract

Racism in Brazil is a historical and structural reality that manifests itself in various forms of discrimination. Among the countless means of perpetuating racism, this study will focus on the distorted use of family power for this purpose. The study will address the influence of family power exercised by racist parents on the formation of children in the context of Brazilian society. The research is based on the hypothesis that children have their first contact with racist thinking through family power exercised in a distorted way. Based on the premise that man is not born racist, but racism corrupts him, the study discusses the perspectives of the white child, who learns to become racist with the racist "teachings" of his family members, and the black child, who suffers the segregation imposed on her without understanding it. The doctrine of civil law is used to define family power as a set of rights and duties of parents in relation to the upbringing and education of their children. The study discusses racism in Brazil and around the world, as well as the civil, ethical, moral and even criminal responsibility of parents in the exercise of family power when they expose the child to discriminatory speech and practices, which can have harmful effects on citizenship formation. of child. It is based on selective bibliographical research and presents historical and conceptual notions about the family and family power.
