Abstract

When reflecting on the evolutions and involutions of the social view of death, the hospital reveals itself as the central stage of these developments in contemporary times. It is relevant to think that Hospital Psychology can act in an expressive way in experiencing the terminality of life and in coping with death. With this, the objective is, in a general way, to understand the contributions of Hospital Psychology when accompanying processes of terminality of life interconnected to the social vision of death. The article will be based on the following specific objectives, elaborate a historical discussion on the representations of death and the development of the concept of terminality, enunciate the subjective experience of the person in the process of terminality of life and understand the actions of the Hospital Psychologist in the face of the reality of the imminent end. To this end, a bibliographical review is carried out, developed in the narrative character, with the use of scientific articles, theses and dissertations. It starts from the hypothesis that Hospital Psychology can act in the construction process of new symbolizations and representations about death in the period of terminality of life. So that your support helps in this confrontation, which allows, at least in the hospital context, the social view of death to be supported by a joint elaboration. It is understood that, when joining the threads of the social vision of death with the performance of Hospital Psychology in the terminality of life, their mutual influences become evident. With the predominance of the interdiction of this phenomenon in the West, it is necessary to centralize this theme in everyday life.
