This article aims to discuss the challenges and present alternatives for teaching physics in Youth and Adult Education (YAE) in the school context in female prisons. Education within the prison system is essential to promote the resocialization and social reintegration of inmates, and the discipline of physics plays an important role in this process. However, there are several obstacles to be overcome, including the lack of adequate teaching resources, the lack of specific training for teachers and the difficulties faced by the inmates themselves. In this context, the methodology used is the theoretical essay that consisted of a synthesis and critical analysis of the literature on the subject. To this end, challenges are discussed and alternatives are presented to make physics teaching more effective in the prison context, such as adapting the content to the inmates' daily situations, the use of audiovisual resources and simple experiments and the promotion of practical activities that stimulate the active participation of the students. Through the analysis of these alternatives, it is expected to contribute to the improvement of physics teaching in YAE in female prisons and, consequently, to the resocialization of these women.
