Abstract

This article presents a systematic review of the literature on the prospective evaluation of the efficacy of pharmacological therapy in patients with resistant hypertension. Resistant hypertension is a challenging clinical condition characterized by lack of blood pressure control despite the use of multiple antihypertensive agents. The methodology included a search in scientific databases, careful selection of prospective studies and analysis of the results obtained. The review included studies that evaluated the effects of different classes of drugs on blood pressure control in patients with resistant hypertension. Outcomes such as reduction in systolic and diastolic blood pressure, control of cardiovascular outcomes, variation in renal function, changes in biomarkers and the tolerability and safety of therapy were considered. The results indicated that different therapeutic approaches have been shown to be effective in reducing blood pressure in patients with resistant hypertension. In addition, pharmacological therapy has also shown benefits in improving cardiovascular outcomes, renal function, and hypertension-related biomarkers. However, variations in results were observed between different classes of medication, highlighting the importance of individualizing treatment. In the context of quality of life and postoperative recovery, the results suggest that pharmacological therapy can also positively influence these aspects in patients with resistant hypertension. However, it is essential to consider the tolerability and safety of the therapy, since adverse effects can impact adherence and continuity of treatment. In conclusion, this systematic review highlights the importance of prospectively evaluating the effectiveness of pharmacological therapy in patients with resistant hypertension. Accumulated evidence points to the effectiveness of pharmacological therapy in controlling blood pressure and improving cardiovascular outcomes, renal function, biomarkers and quality of life. However, individualization of treatment and consideration of tolerability and safety are essential for the successful management of resistant hypertension.
