Abstract

Pregnancy is a physiological phenomenon that occurs in most cases without intercurrences, which are called usual risk pregnancies. In order to perform a longitudinal follow-up, prenatal care aims to guide a good gestational evolution, prepare the pregnant woman for the moment of birth, and outline a continued obstetric plan. The objective of this study is to correlate the profile of pregnant patients with their frequency of prenatal visits, searching for factors that decrease their adherence to the assistance program, and then identify which groups need more attention. Methods: The data were collected through individual analysis of medical records, selecting the factors age, education, marital status and number of previous pregnancies for comparison with the number of consultations, subsequently classifying as complete, partial or insufficient coverage according to the number of consultations proposed by the Ministry of Health. Results: We found that the most relevant factor for maintaining prenatal care is the presence of a partner, a support and safety net. Low age did not prove to be a factor that decreases adherence, while low schooling proved to be detrimental. Pregnant women who already had three or more children were more engaged in the follow-up.  Secondary to the research, another relevant factor cited in several studies, besides the Ministry of Health's manual, was the good relationship with the team. The group that performed the minimum of 6 prenatal consultations in the unit corresponds to 79.31%. Even if the others have records of active search in medical records, it is evident the need to invest in other ways to increase the coverage of the service and actions directed at women who are more likely to perform the assistance insufficiently.
