This essay is based on the chapter “What does Contemporary Literature mean” which is part of the book “Contemporary Brazilian Fiction” by literary critic Karl Erik Schollhammer (2009). The essay aims to present the reflections proposed by the author and bring them to the current context, in order to study how Literature, the concept of Contemporary and the emergence of the Internet promoted changes in the profile of writers and in the way of writing and consuming Literature. .
