INDUSTRY 4.0: HAS IT REACHED EXHAUSTION, OR IS THERE STILL ROOM FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENTS?

Abstract

The Industry 4.0 theme presented a high volume of publications over the last decade. However, the preliminary survey indicated that there are no limits to the emergence of new research, as its social and economic impact continues to rapidly transform not only manufacturing lines, but also the way of life and business conception in the world. In this sense, understanding how the state of the art of industry 4.0 is found allows revealing great opportunities for research and theoretical development, however the article has the following objective: “Understanding the current development of the literature regarding industry 4.0, thus demonstrating the main lines of thought thought, authors and trends, thus allowing to draw a map on the state of the art revealing opportunities and gaps that can be addressed”. With the use of a bibliographical study, with the use of quantitative and qualitative analysis, it made it possible to trace seven different lines of research and compare them, resulting in the revelation of new study opportunities and trends in the theoretical development regarding industry 4.0.
