Retroperitoneal mucinous adenocarcinoma is a rare type of cancer that occurs in the retroperitoneal area, behind the peritoneum. It mainly affects elderly patients and is characterized by the abnormal growth of mucus-producing glandular cells in this region. Early diagnosis is challenging due to vague and nonspecific symptoms, such as abdominal pain and increased abdominal volume. The diagnosis is usually made through imaging tests and histopathological confirmation by biopsy. Treatment involves surgical removal of the tumor, followed in some cases by adjuvant chemotherapy and radiation therapy. A multidisciplinary approach is crucial for the proper management of these cases. Additional studies are needed to improve therapeutic options and prognosis for patients with retroperitoneal mucinous adenocarcinoma.
