This article performs a bibliographic review about the origins of cooperativism, addressing both its importance and its challenges for cooperative enterprises. The choice of this area is based on the relevance of the theme, as this organizational model has played a crucial role in both the economic and social progress of the country. In this perspective, the implementation of an efficient management system ensures the continuous evolution of cooperative organizations in the economic context. Thus, the relevance of the management model is highlighted in the context of the application of the Management Excellence Program in cooperative A located in the North region of Brazil. For this, tools from the Cooperative Management Development Program (PDGC) are used, which carry out a diagnosis of the cooperative's governance and management, with the aim of promoting continuous improvement in each cycle of planning, execution, control and learning. The results of this research are relevant to encourage reflection on cooperative principles as factors that strengthen this organizational model, seeking to promote the dissemination of cooperativism to new members.
