Abstract

Introduction: Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a disabling condition characterized by anxiety and where the presence of uncomfortable thoughts causes a feeling of discomfort in the person. The person with obsessive-compulsive disorder has obsessions and compulsions able to interfere with their own functioning. The aim of this study is to understand the experiences of a person living with obsessive-compulsive disorder. Methodology: Systematic review of the literature, including scientific articles published between January 2017 and December 2022. Five randomized controlled trials were selected, following the PRISMA guidelines.Results: All selected articles demonstrate that obsessive-compulsive disorder leads to various impairments in the life of people with this disorder.Conclusion: The obsessive-compulsive disorder can cause numerous negative impacts that bring several damages to people's life, affecting them in several areas from social and family relationships, at work, at an academic level, in leisure activities, and also in daily life activities.
