Currently, Diabetes Mellitus is one of the most prevalent diseases in Brazil. Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) show that Brazil is the 5th country with the highest number of people with the disease, with 16.8 million patients spread across the country. The objective of this work was to analyze, epidemiologically, the profile of patients with the disease in the state of Rio de Janeiro in 2022. The methods used to prepare this work are summarized in a cross-sectional study, where the data used were extracted from the electronic information platform in health at the Health Department of the State of Rio de Janeiro (SES-RJ). The data obtained referred to the year 2022 and were analyzed quantitatively in relation to the total number of Authorizations for Hospital Admission (AIH), admissions requiring treatment in an intensive care unit and mortality rates. The results obtained from the analysis show that in the year 2022 there were 8,266 AIHs for Diabetes Mellitus approved in the state, with 722 of these hospitalizations occurring in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and with a total mortality rate of 7.4/100,000 inhabitants in the territories analyzed. Diabetes Mellitus is a highly prevalent disease in the country and in the world, with increasing rates of new diagnoses year after year and with a high burden of associated morbidity and mortality. Therefore, understanding the epidemiological dynamics of this entity is extremely important so that new therapeutic approaches and public health policies are developed with the aim of reducing morbidity and mortality rates due to Diabetes in the country.
