The main purpose of this article is to know the social reintegration, through the work of the re-educating, to analyze the context of the practice of prison work as a form of resocialization, as well as to present to the public the advances that have occurred in the prison system of the municipality of Porto Velho – RO. Considering the rates of criminal recidivism in the prison system, several measures are employed as a way to resocialize prisoners and thus prevent them from committing crimes again, among them, prison work. In view of this, the present study has a field research, presenting a qualitative and quantitative approach, and also bibliographic with assertion of the doctrine that grounds the subject. In what concerns the resocialization process, some of the projects that the State Secretariat of Justice of Rondônia (SEJUS) together with the Social Reintegration Management – GERES has been carrying out nowadays, through public policies, will be presented. However, even if the State presents the projects that contribute to this process, it is notorious that the methodology of resocialization is still hampered by the shortcomings of the prison system, having as one of the problems the low effectiveness of public servants and the overcrowding of the units. Despite the difficulties that the prison system still faces, the process of resocialization has already changed many lives and continues to provide a new perspective and life opportunity to the inmates.
