Abstract

The posterior cerebral artery has the anatomical purpose of irrigating paramedian regions of the thalamus and midbrain. Sometimes, due to occlusion of a rare variation of the posterior cerebral artery, the Artery of Percheron, one may have confusing clinical findings, where radiological investigations allow early treatment. When this occurs, there may be damage to the paramedian thalamic and rostromedial compartments. The imaging exam, for diagnosis and adoption of early therapeutic actions, can minimize the deleterious effects, avoid social inconveniences caused by the individual's removal from their functional activities and increase the patients' quality of life expectancy.
