Abstract

Cuiaban language is part of the intangible historical heritage of Mato Grosso, as such, it cannot run the risk of being permanently erased from the population's memory, as this language did not come by chance, but was built over the centuries, having the influence of other languages, such as those of indigenous peoples, Spanish and Portuguese. Much more than a “funny talk”, he doesn't let the population forget their origin. Storytelling using the typical language of the region is one of the ways to preserve such heritage and this cannot be done in any way, but intentionally, especially with regard to early childhood education and the early years of elementary school. Based on the storytelling of the traditional tale "The old man, the boy and the donkey" experienced and discussed in the optional subject "Children's Literature" offered by the Institute of Education of the UFMT-headquarters and later told to a 1st year literacy class, we seek to approach and discuss, from theorists, the valorization through storytelling for children, the existing prejudice and how such approaches can be worked on in early childhood education and elementary school.
