Abstract

The stability of slopes is the goal of every recurrent mining process, as well as of natural slopes, since it is essential for the safety of people in these activities. Therefore, the study of slope stability is indispensable in the creation of projects that deal with works on natural or artificial slopes. Precise calculations of slope safety claims provide quantitative criteria that aid in the assessment of risks related to excavations, as well as offer parameters to predict the possibility of slope failure. In this way, natural disasters and catastrophes in mining pits can be prevented or minimized. This work offers the necessary knowledge on the subject, which is essential for the engineering professional who seeks to work in mine geotechnics and/or civil works. The contents cover geological and geomechanical factors harmonized with calculation methods for the quantification of safety indices in the stabilization of slopes.
