This article aimed to discuss the contributions of Gestalt Therapy to the practice of hospital psychologists within the field of psycho-oncology, focusing on support for patients and their families during the course of illness and treatment. This study employed a qualitative, bibliographic approach based on a narrative literature review, analyzing scientific publications related to psycho-oncology, hospital psychology, and Gestalt Therapy, supplemented by classic works on the approach. The results demonstrated that a cancer diagnosis impacts not only the physical dimension but also the emotional, relational, and psychosocial aspects of the patient and their family. In this context, the foundations of Gestalt Therapy allow for an understanding of the person in their uniqueness and in relation to the field, considering concepts such as contact, awareness, figure-ground, creative adjustment, and hetero-support. The psychologist's role can facilitate the expression and understanding of the lived experience, the recognition of current needs, and the development of coping strategies in the face of changes resulting from the illness. The study concludes that the Gestalt perspective contributes to a humanized psychological practice grounded in uniqueness, the therapeutic bond, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
