Teaching is marked by different challenges that go beyond the teaching and learning process, involving working conditions, professional recognition, health, and relationships established in the school routine. Starting from this premise, the aim of this article is to spark a discussion and reflection on the main dilemmas surrounding the teaching profession, focusing on professional devaluation, suffering and illness, work overload and precariousness, and the challenges of teacher training and practice. To achieve this goal, a bibliographic study with a qualitative approach was conducted, based on theoretical works related to the topic. The results show that these challenges are interconnected and can't be understood just as individual issues, since working conditions and lack of recognition can make professional burnout worse. The aim is to help broaden the discussion about teachers' reality and highlight the need for policies focused on improving work conditions and professional appreciation.
